Plans are underway for planning the TD National Reading Summit for 2011.

From the conference names were collected of people interested in joining working groups on a range of specific issues:
•    Babies/Pre-school
•    School-aged children
•    High school/University
•    First Nations
•    New Canadians
•    Equity/Access.

The working groups will survey existing programs and policies, develop best-practice guidelines, and formulate policy recommendations to bring forward to the 2010 Summit.

A part-time Project Manager will be hired to oversee follow-up activities, primarily through coordination of six working groups, and lead movement toward the second Summit in 2010, seeking additional funding, lobbying public officials, engaging with media, and raising public awareness,

The Steering Committee will continue to meet on a regular basis and will be enhanced by new members to round out the representation from various constituencies and regions.

The TD National Reading Summit website will be enhanced. Proceedings of the first Summit will be posted including speaker’s PowerPoint presentations, transcripts and edited video footage.  Interactive elements to the website will also be added and the “blog” will be added to regularly.  A “social networking” campaign will be undertaken and a “community manager” will be engaged to take on this role.

An electronic newsletter will be developed and sent out on a regular basis to keep conference delegates and potential future conference delegates up to date.
