Report: Conclusion

Back to table of contents.

The first TD National Reading Summit far exceeded the ambitious expectations of the Steering Committee who conceived it. The quality of the program, the breadth of participation, and the commitment to move forward to a national plan have been enormously encouraging to the volunteers whose efforts shaped the Summit and will shape the programs that ultimately emerge from it. The support of public and private sponsors, most particularly of TD, has made possible a very forward-looking series of initiatives that will, over time, make for a more engaged and successful populace, a more civil society, and a better quality of life for all Canadians. We very much look forward to continuing on this path, to the 2010 Summit, and beyond that to the integration of creative and effective reading programs into public policy across Canada.
